Skyrim iPad App – IGN
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, iOS, PC Games, Playstation 3, Utilities on April 7, 2012
One for the Skyrim fans here. IGN has released a free iPad app, featuring an interactive map, hints, tips & guide videos. They’ve also thrown in a few nice wallpapers too, so you can decorate your home screen with large men with swords…or dragons. The interactive map is very useful, the video content is helpful [...]
Game closing 277 stores
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, News on March 26, 2012
Struggling retailer Game (including Gamestation) officially entered administration today. Currently it plans to close around 277 stores. Details are still fairly sketchy and having the Game.co.uk site down at the moment isn’t helping. Apparently the closures amount to 79 jobs lost in Wales alone. However, before the website went down they did suggest that online [...]
Game Shares Suspended
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, News on March 21, 2012
Things are looking decidedly bleak for the high street staple Game (inc. Gamestation). After being given a short time to raise a large sum of cash, it has been unable to adequately evaluate its financial position, leading to its shares being pulled from the stock exchange. The company, which operates 1,300 stores worldwide and employs [...]
Max Payne 3 – Visual Effects & Cinematics
Posted by Gavin Lewis in PC Games, Playstation 3 on March 15, 2012
As a follow-up to the previous tech demo released by Rockstar in the run-up to Max Payne 3′s launch, they’ve squeezed another one out for us all to see. This time the focus is on visual effects and cinematics. Once again, Rockstar is pushing the boat out and is trying to cram as much trickery as [...]
Skyrim: Otar the Mad
Posted by Gavin Lewis in PC Games, Playstation 3 on March 13, 2012
Otar is one of the many dragon priests you’ll find in Skyrim as you travel around looking for Words of Power. As with other dragon priests (Morokei) you’re taking on quite a formidable foe. Fortunately, providing you are at a high enough level in terms of close range weapons (swords, axes etc) you should find [...]
Microsoft Flight (Windows)
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, PC Games, Windows on March 4, 2012
I spent many an hour playing on FSX and its “Acceleration” expansion pack. It was a great flight simulator that proved to be quite a test for even the most advanced PC at the time. It was a big shame that the developers were laid off during a period of downsizing at Microsoft, but it [...]
Journey – PS3
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, Playstation 3 on March 1, 2012
Here’s another strange title from the people who brought you “Flower”. Truth be told I’m not quite sure what to make of it…
Borderlands 2 – New Trailer
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, PC Games, Playstation 3 on February 22, 2012
Woohoo, there’s a new Borderlands 2 trailer out. This one is a lot more helpful than the previous one, what with the actual gameplay clips and some indication of what we can expect. On the face of it it looks like we can expect a lot more of the same, which is no bad thing [...]
Skyrim: To Lydia with Love
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, PC Games, Playstation 3 on February 18, 2012
Mildly amusing video here which sums up why I do most of my questing alone! Non-player characters invariably get in the way or end up dead and using them tends to be counter-productive. Lydia seems like too nice a girl to risk her becoming dragon-food…
Playstation Vita: More Hands On!
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Vita on February 18, 2012
Today I managed to snatch a little more time with the PS Vita at the local branch of Game. After the first play I had felt a little downhearted about the experience. I had found the buttons a little small and cramped and the games I had picked to play left me cold. Today I [...]
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Vita on February 17, 2012
I’ve watched a few video reviews of the new Uncharted title for the Vita and there appears to be a common thread running through all of them – the controls. Whilst it is true that the Vita is well equipped where control methods are concerned, it appears that developers are trying to use all of [...]
Mortal Kombat for the PS Vita
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, Vita on February 15, 2012
Uncharted Golden Abyss may be grabbing the headlines at the moment, but this game looks really good. It’s seems like a pretty authentic & good looking Mortal Kombat experience you can play on the bus. An encouraging sign for Sony’s new handheld.
PS3 Web Browser Update
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Playstation 3 on February 13, 2012
The PS3′s web browser has finally received a much needed update. The Netfront-based browser has been beefed up in firmware version 4.10 to deliver a fairly respectable 99/100 in Acid3 and 7992ms in Sunspider 0.9.1. It also scores 2253/50000 in ClubCompy. This is way behind the current crop of desktop browsers, but it is a [...]
Darkness 2
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Playstation 3 on February 12, 2012
I’ve been waiting for this game. The Darkness was a largely forgotten gem from the folks who brought us the Riddick games. It had a great story, an awesome vocal performance from Faith No More’s Mike Patton and an alluring feeling of power. The Darkness 2 has a different developer and a different visual style, [...]
Vita Launch Titles
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, Vita on January 29, 2012
Gamespot has put together a summary of some of the Vita’s launch titles. There’s a couple of weak links in there, but they look quite interesting on the whole.
Skyrim: Investing in a Business
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, PC Games, Playstation 3 on January 29, 2012
Building up your speech skill in Skyrim can be quite a good way to boost your wealth too. Not only can you start getting better prices for your stuff, you can also start investing in one of the businesses in Skyrim. Investing in a business allows them to carry much more cash, so you can [...]
Playstation Vita – Hands On
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, Vita on January 29, 2012
Ahead of the UK launch on the 22nd February, Vita demo units have started to roll out across @gamedigital stores in the UK. As a bit of a Vita fan I was eager to see one of these new machines in the flesh.
Console Rumour Mills
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Hardware, Playstation 3 on January 26, 2012
The rumour mill is in full swing, gearing up for the possible launch of a new generation of games consoles somewhere down the line. So far the rumours have been sounding like more of a wish list than a rumour, so it’s hard not to have a chuckle at them. For the 360 I’ve so [...]
SSX
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Playstation 3 on January 20, 2012
Clips of the new SSX game are starting to come through thick & fast now that the launch is only a month or two away. It has been a long time since a good snowboarding game has come out – I think Amped 3 was the last one. SSX is looking quite exciting, to be [...]
Skyrim
Posted by Gavin Lewis in Games, PC Games, Playstation 3, Thoughts on January 20, 2012
Well, I honestly thought that by now I would have become bored of wandering around the diverse landscape Skyrim has to offer, yet I’m still playing it whenever I can. It is one of those games that draws you in, allows you to create and grow a character all of your own and live out [...]
