A useful primer on Thunderbolt has popped up on Toms Hardware now that the technology is being added to non-Mac motherboards.

Despite having two thunderbolt ports on my Mac, I’ve yet to use either of them.  Accessories and external drives using Thunderbolt’s massive bandwidth are still carrying eyewatering price tags.

If you aren’t yet familiar with Thunderbolt or its implications, we definitely believe that the technology is an interface you’re going to want on the next system you put together, even if the ecosystem of compatible devices remains fairly small today.

Hopefully now that the standard is available to pretty much anyone, we should see some cheaper devices hit the market.
