Whilst there are some great photos on Flickr, I think it is fair to say that the website has seen better days. It’s awash with Flash-based slide shows, a clunky and ugly interface and it still lacks a native iPad app.
This is a shame, because the wealth of geotagged images on Flickr would make ideal fodder for a budding armchair explorer, were it not for the lousy interface. Perhaps StuckOnEarth is the answer?
This free iPad app presents you with a map of the world which can be pinched and zoomed around at will. When you zoom into an area, the app scours Flickr for geotagged images and places them all over the map.
Tapping on an image will invoke a slideshow view like the one above featuring one of my own images. From here you can see who took the image and choose to follow them if you like what you see.

Each image can be added to a “trip”, which is a collection of images from a particular place. If you are heading for a particular location, simply create a trip for that place and add images to it. You can access these collections from the home screen, where you are greeting by a cheesy American lady who will do her bit to make you feel at home.
This is a nice little app and puts an interesting spin on browsing Flickr. If you are so inclined, you can join the associated Flickr group and add your own images to the pool, although it doesn’t seem to influence what appears in the app. My images were displayed before I’d given it any information or even told it who I was.
