DOFMaster

Sorry, another post on depth of field. I’ve recently discovered the “app store” tied to the ipod touch and iphone and discovered an excellent application called DOFMaster. It costs £1.19 at the time of writing and allows you to choose the type of camera from a wide range of digital and film formats, the lens focal length, the f-stop and the focus distance. It’ll then present you with the near limit, far limit and the total DOF…oh, and finally the hyperfocal distance.

Here’s a landscape shot taken using a 50mm f1.8 prime – see, it can be done. It is quite useful when there is a gorge full of nothing between you and what you want to photograph, thanks to the 1.5x crop factor, making it a 75mm lens effectively.
